Manifesto.

Our plans.

We are a political party formed by local residents. Our aim is to gain independence for Orihuela Costa, whilst beginning to rejuvenate and modernise the area for generations to come. To accomplish these objectives PIOC will need to have complete control of the budget for Orihuela Costa and we may need to arrange agreements with councillors.

We have three categories for our objectives to help improve, modernise and support residents and non-residents alike. These include:

  • Short-term objectives: Achievable in up to 2 years.

  • Mid-term objectives: Achievable between 2 to 4 years.

  • Long-term objectives: Achievable in more than 4 years.

Please keep in mind that PIOC advocates for the following objectives. However for us to enact these objectives, and thus the betterment of everyone on the coast, we must have elected councillors on the local council. Therefore you must vote to make a difference. If we manage even to have one councillor, we will be able to persistently promote the following objectives and potentially lobby to support from other elected officials in the local council or possibly the regional government.

As much as we will like to enact all of these objectives in one year, respect that even if we have one, two or three elected councillors there will be a process in planning & enacting these objectives. Also, we will have fierce opposition who will continue to strive to keep Orihuela Costa stuck in a time loop for eternity and do not wish for us to progress in life.

Here are our objectives.

  • To shed light on the current financial state of the town hall, the PIOC is advocating for a thorough financial audit. This will provide a clear picture of the town's assets, liabilities, employee count, and roles.

  • As per regulations, the town hall of Orihuela is required to prepare an annual budget that outlines its income and expenditures, as well as the projects planned for the year. It is concerning that the town has failed to do so for the past four years.

  • The town hall of Orihuela currently employs over 20 advisors, many of whom lack proper qualifications and clear roles, at a cost of €800,000 per year. PIOC proposes to limit the use of advisors to only those necessary for specific projects, ensuring timely and cost-effective completion.

  • Orihuela is a vast district, and the monthly plenary sessions, where decisions on projects and planning are made, are held only in Orihuela Centre. To improve accessibility, PIOC suggests rotating these meetings across the different urban centres of Orihuela, including the hamlets and Orihuela Costa.

  • By law, districts in large towns, like Orihuela, must have a designated budget. Currently, all districts receive €60,000 regardless of their size, which results in unequal distribution of funds. PIOC proposes to increase the budget to €1 million per district and allow residents to participate in the allocation process.

  • The town hall provides subsidies worth over €500,000 to various associations in Orihuela. Unfortunately, not many organizations in Orihuela Costa are aware of these subsidies, leading to the underutilization of funds. To address this, PIOC proposes to hire technicians who can assist these associations in securing funding and establishing new organizations.

  • Orihuela's stretch of motorway is the most expensive in Spain, leading most motorists to avoid the toll by using the N332. PIOC aims to resolve this issue by either making the motorway free or offering subsidies to residents and visitors of Padrón and Zenia Boulevard.

  • As a responsible municipal body, we prioritize sustainability and ecological preservation in all our activities and projects.

  • The current state of crossing the motorway in Campoamor presents a significant safety risk to its residents. We aim to alleviate this issue by constructing a bridge for safe passage.

  • Cultural amenities are an integral part of any thriving community. Despite having a population of over 50,000, Orihuela Costa is currently lacking in these offerings. PIOC is committed to rectifying this by building a cultural centre with an auditorium and library.

  • In Spain, the elderly are entitled to quality care services. Unfortunately, Orihuela Costa is lagging behind in this regard. PIOC aims to address this imbalance and provide seniors with the care they deserve.

  • The current location of the Saturday street market causes traffic congestion and inconvenience for local residents. PIOC aims to find a new location that offers the convenience of a market without the associated issues.

  • Effective waste management is crucial for maintaining a clean and healthy community. The current system in Orihuela Coast is inadequate and PIOC intends to propose a new system to address this issue.

  • Reducing the amount of waste and green cuttings on the streets is essential for a sustainable community. An eco-park can play a crucial role in achieving this goal.

  • By incorporating essential services such as 24-hour ambulance services, fire station, and police station into the Emergency Center, we aim to provide comprehensive emergency response to our community.

  • With over 1,000 new houses being built in Orihuela Costa each year, it is imperative to ensure that adequate public services are in place to support the growing population. PIOC proposes a review of existing services before approving new housing developments.

  • Instead of being developed for commercial purposes, Cala Mosca has the potential to be a natural park that provides ecological and recreational benefits to the community. PIOC intends to advocate for its designation as a Municipal Natural Park.

  • In order to address the ongoing issue of flooding in Orihuela Costa, PIOC proposes a re-evaluation of the existing €20 million plan and the implementation of effective measures.

  • PIOC plans to develop eco-friendly and sustainable cycling routes to promote healthy lifestyles, reduce carbon emissions, and preserve the environment. These routes will be designed with nature in mind and integrated into the local transportation network, making cycling accessible and attractive for residents and visitors.

  • PIOC believes in promoting the cultural heritage of Orihuela Costa and will work towards creating a museum that highlights the unique aspects of Mediterranean culture.

  • PIOC aims to provide dignified and respectful burial services to families in need with a modern cemetery and funeral home, featuring the latest technologies and a peaceful environment. Emphasizing compassion and support will be a lasting legacy for generations.

  • There is ample land available to attract industries and support job training programs, creating new employment opportunities for the community.

  • To serve the needs of the unemployed in Orihuela Costa, PIOC will work to establish a job centre closer to home, eliminating the need to travel 33 km to Orihuela.

  • This can be done through incentives such as reducing municipal taxes for homes that use alternative energy sources.

  • Animal welfare is a priority for PIOC, and they are committed to collaborating with rescue centres to provide the necessary support to animals in need.

  • PIOC prioritizes the well-being and development of its young citizens. To support working families, PIOC aims to establish high-quality day care provision for child care. With a focus on safety, education, and socialization, this initiative will ensure that children have access to the care and support they need to thrive, while their parents can work with peace of mind.

  • PIOC respects the importance of health and wellbeing for everyone in the community. By establishing these facilities, we can provide access to affordable exercise, recreation, and leisure activities for individuals and families of all ages. These centres will also promote community building and social interactions, contributing to a more connected and vibrant community.

  • PIOC believes that everyone deserves access to necessary resources and support. By providing presentations on special needs in public meetings and schools, we can raise awareness and educate the public on the importance of inclusive practices. This will create a more understanding and welcoming environment for individuals with special needs in our community.

  • PIOC recognises the importance of accessibility for individuals with disabilities. By making public areas and buildings accessible through ramps, elevators, and other means, we can create a more inclusive and equal society. This will enable individuals with disabilities to participate in all aspects of life and have equal access to public services.

  • PIOC understands the need to provide support for individuals with disabilities, both physical and social. By implementing programs that address their specific needs, we can create a more inclusive and equal society. This will enable individuals with disabilities to participate in all aspects of life and have equal access to opportunities.

  • PIOC believes that access to quality public services is a basic right for all individuals. By providing employment opportunities and assistance to those in the public services sector, we can ensure that our community receives the best services possible. This will also contribute to creating a more equitable society, where everyone has access to quality public services.

  • PIOC advocates for the need to create sustainable job opportunities that provide full-time employment. By creating jobs that are not seasonal, we can provide individuals with stable and consistent employment, contributing to a more stable and thriving community. This will also reduce the number of individuals who are underemployed or have to work multiple jobs to make ends meet.

  • The current situation of the walkway at the seafront of Cabo Roig presents a significant hindrance for the public who wishes to enjoy an unbroken walk from Cabo Roig to Campoamor or from Cabo Roig to La Zenia. We aim to alleviate this issue by constructing a wooden or glass bridge for continuous passage.

Integration and progress.

Integration is the key element to a successful outcome for our multicultural community to progress and improve our status as Orihuela Costa citizens living in one of the most beautiful areas in the municipality of Valenciana, a jewel in the crown of Spain.

Everyone living in Orihuela Costa will benefit from improvements to the coast if only they work together, as one, for the coast.
