Why join PIOC.

Council representation.

PIOC was formed from a mandate that a handful of local residents had, has and will continue to have, for the betterment of Orihuela Costa. The council is formed of councillors who do not represent the coast, multi-lingual residents and local businesses. We need real representation now.

Fairer budget.

The majority of the finance generated by Orihuela Costa goes to fuel the pockets of Orihuela town itself. There is a major lack of reinvestment on the coast and we deserve better. A lacking budget means that not much can be fixed, improved or even purchased for Orihuela Costa.

Maintenance improvements.

As mentioned before, the lack of a meaningful budget means that there is minimal opportunity for reinvestment. However, imagine if we had 100% control of our budget. We could invest in cleaning streets, planned parks, lush gardens, smooth roads, modern sewage works, well-managed beaches, disability-first access points and so much more.

Infrastructure improvements.

With a real budget, PIOC will be able to invest in much need infrastructure, including a cultural centre, libraries, bus station & regular service routes, a modern medical centre, emergency centres, child care & patient care centres, disability assistance, youth & general clubs, cemetery and much more.

Urban planning.

The current local political structure endoreses residential real estate developers to build as much as they can without considering the utility capacity needed to serve those properties (water, gas and electric), but also commercial units needed to provide local services and road & pavement planning meant to handle the flow of traffic & pedestrians. There must be strict regulation on real estate development in Orihuela Costa and there must be a focus on modernising the existing urban plans. There needs to be management for construction limits and a creation of efficient zone types, residential, commercial and so on. This can also impact how transportation ways and hubs (buses, trams and railway lines) can form and upgrade.

Sustainable environment.

Considering the previous point, managing how much is constructed in Orihuela Costa can impact the local environment. The climate is changing and this means that we have to protect every available wildlife habitat, such as Cala Mosca. This aside, controlling how much is constructed on the coast can allow for the establishment of an eco-park centre to assist with recycling, protect rare wildlife species, and limit coastal erosion.
