About us.

How we formed.

To begin with, PIOC stands for Partido Independencia Orihuela Costa. At an AGM held in late November 2018 by another party called CLARO, there was a big divide within the party, resulting in a mass exit of 15 key members.

Former CLARO.

Within these 15 members were 2 founders of claro, members of the executive committee, past presidents, and somebody who was regarded as the mother of the party, who all walked out on Friday 23rd November 2018.

The plan.

The following day, on Saturday, we all meet and discussed our future, as there was so much passion and experience, we felt that we must carry on under a different name, even though most of our objectives were the same as our previous party there was one fundamental difference and that was independence.

A platform.

On Sunday we were coming up with possible names for the party, the original name was POC, which was Plataforma Orihuela Costa then several months later we changed to PIOC, since the initial conception of the party has gone from strength to strength and followers from all communities, which brings us up to date.

The future.

Why do we regard Independence as vital to the future of Orihuela Costa, first is the amount of revenue being raised on the coast, out of the 27 districts the coast makes up 55% of the council's overall revenue, which means the other 26 districts makes up the other 45% between them, but when it comes to spending Orihuela Costa only gets a fraction of what should be eligible for.

Costal community.

Also if you look at the location of Orihuela Costa it is impossible to leave and not to drive through another municipality that did not gain their independence from Orihuela, Pilar, San Miguel, Bigastro, Torrevieja, Los Montesinos just to name a few, will there ever be a change of policy of discrimination directed at the Coast, if you look back through history it has always been the case and nothing will ever change.
