Well, that’s s***!

Sewage on the coast is a real disaster and is getting worse year after year. Not so long ago at the height of the tourist season, there was a major embarrassment for the Orihuela Costa when three of our major beaches were because of sewage contamination. Cala Mosca, Cala Bosque and Cala Carrada, then after only 24 hours were reopened after being declared safe to do so. But, did any of our councillors have the courage to take a dip?

The question is who did the test, and would the council publish its report? The sad thing is that this incident reached the English media and which has further tarnished the image of Orihuela Costa. Our council depends heavily on the tourists to come and spend their money. To prove it is safe to use these beaches perhaps our Mayor Carolina Gracia, Deputy Mayor Jose Aix and councillors should come to the Coast and set an example and go for a swim.

90% of the tourism comes to Orihuela Costa, and 60% of the council’s revenue comes from the Coast. So it is so sad the decline of Orihuela Costa from what was once one of the crown jewels of Spain to a depressed state when it rains we have sewage running in our streets making its way down towards the seafront and quite often barriers are erected to try to divert the sewage away from the beaches, especially La Zenia beach which is not an unusual Phenomenon.

PIOC has documented several videos as evidence, is it any wonder that we do not have a lot more incidents like that, the rains come and the results are we have sewage running through our streets and gravity takes it to the beaches. No doubt there are more embarrassments to the surface which is no surprise when you have incompetent people running our council.
