Stealth by stealth to govern us
With the elections edging closer National Parties have their eyes firmly focused on their most valuable asset and that is Orihuela Costa. At the moment, 60% of the council’s overall revenue comes from us and with the population expanding by well over 2,000 a year it is only natural to expect so will the revenue. So any party will go to any lengths to sink to any level to keep control of that critical source of revenue.
It is not a well-known fact that the main party PP with a new leader will be at the forefront to try to divide the votes on Orihuela Costa. Why? After a disastrous 7 years of coalition with Ciudadanos, they want to be the majority party, with so many votes up for grabs they will try to divide us by turning associations, local political parties, groups and businesses against each other in the hope of picking up those votes.
Only a local party or a coalition of local parties is the only solution to the future of the coast. PP had ample opportunities in the past when they were the majority party to invest in Orihuela Costa but they choose not to thereby they became a major part of the decline of the coast. Not the saviours as they will try to portray over the next months leading up to the elections.
Clandestine meetings, fake commitments, or even associations led by PP sympathisers will try to spread disharmony, and distrust among us. But, the biggest mistake is underestimating the residents of the coast are not that so easily fooled. Over the years we have become wise to their tactics, and fake pronouncements they will be judged for what they have not honoured before.

Early last year (2022), the Elche prosecutor's office opened proceedings against the Orihuela City Council to investigate alleged cost overruns in the works of the civic centre in the district of La Aparecia. According to a complaint filed by the municipal group Cambiemos Orihuela, the prosecution has initiated this investigation into a possible crime of embezzlement.
Anti-fraud reproaches the Orihuela City Council for its "obvious inactivity" in an irregular exchange to the Church.
“Since 2004, the Orihuela City Council has allowed the diocese to use some assigned plots without the latter entity carrying out the buildings to which it was obliged in the plenary agreement,” says the agency.
2 serving councillors will be in court answering charges of corruption regarding contracts, (it is alleged).
Corruption comes at a cost and it’s always the cost that pays dearly. How do we put an end to this which has tarnished the image of the cost? In May 2023, everybody who is eligible to vote must do. No more sitting on the fence, if you do not vote then do not complain. The more votes the more councillors we can present it is that simple.
