Abandoned! A wake-up call

Please care for the future of the coast. What PIOC asks our mayor, Carolina Gracia, and deputy mayor, José Aix, is:

  • Are you proud of the damage you have done to the image and reputation of Orihuela Costa, which is widely accepted as "the dirtiest and most neglected of the Spanish Costas"?

More rubbish, more weeds, more bad roads, less maintenance, fewer improvements and less funding. Orihuela, you can be proud of your accolade.

This year, 3 beaches were closed because of sewage contamination, which even reached the media back in the UK. PIOC reported a sewage issue 3 times, and as you can see from the video, it is still happening.

During the summer, over 4,000 contestants and media descended on Orihuela Costa for Beach Handball. This would have been a showcase for all that is good about the coast, but instead, they had been met with potholes, piles of trash, and weeds growing over pavements. In short, an area abandoned by its mayor.

What must you, the estate industry, think when you take clients out to view properties and have to navigate what the rest of the coast has to live with day after day? Right now, the coast is a magnet for buyers and also for property shows from the UK. What on earth must they think when they come?

The coast has the best bars and restaurants anywhere in Spain, 5 fantastic golf courses anywhere in Spain, the largest open-air shopping centre in Europe, and a fantastic macro climate. However, every day, Carolina, had no respect for Orihuela Costa. Do you have a conscience? And Jose Aix, I ask you the same question, are you happy with the image of the coast you have created that is of a dirty and neglected area?
